Vanity plates are really a personal decision for the owner. I would say if it brings a smile to your face every time you come back to the car then go for it. However, in your state I am sure you are aware of the added cost to the personal plate (in your case $103 for the initial year and the an additional $83 for every year thereafter in addition to your normal registration fees which will be higher than just about any other state).

Thought everyone in California had vanity plates. LOL. Agree that it should be personal. Not everyone gets my plate but that's OK. Means something to me. CA plates do look amazingly like the old Outrun game!

if i realized that i had to pay a yearly fee to renew in addition to normal registration then i would not have ordered them. but i did anyways..
luckily they later refunded my money because your are not allow to substitute a number for a letter. (like how i was using the 4 as an A)

Hmmmm.
Maybe sounds-like is ok, but direct replacement is not.(?)
(and oh yeah, you're a cheap bastard - I thought I was bad.)
