Because at this level of car there are tons of people who want instant gratification, buy it, use for a few months and trade it in for something else. Depreciation for them is like going out to a mediocre dinner for others - everything is always relative.

Having one at at my disposal when I please, I can assure you, the cars are awesome

IDK where these mythical tons of RS3’s are. Cars.com lists a whopping 31 total. Autotrader lists 23. That’s mationwide, both model years. Audidirect, which as a dealer I have access to, has 0 cars. I know because I shopped for one last night

My question is... why are there so many used RS3s right now? Is it that some folks buy it and then realize they can't afford it and try to downgrade? The paranoid person in me says "there must be something wrong with the car" if someone gets rid of it with that low of mileage.

Phil,

There are lots and lots of Pre-owned RS3 cars available as I have looked recently.
What I have seen though they are asking lots for them.
Of course asking and getting are two different matters.
Most of the ones I saw listed had miles on them though and few of them were what I would refer to as heavily optioned.
I personally don't want a bare-bones RS3 .............

It goes without saying if a person wants new they are going to pay for that for sure.

I'm only going with new and the last decision to me is going to be on when I can actually take delivery ???
As we have been discussing on this site if it ends up being late in 2019 some of us might then go with the 2020 RS3.
The thing I'm going to keep in mind is, if we do change to the 2020 RS3 then what is realistically going to be the New-Wait time ???
I'm not going to wait like 2-years from the time I placed my original order the 1st of this month being January 2019.

This European thing/matter has really done a negative number for some manufacturers !!!

Well it's all according to one's perspective I think.

Try looking for a New 2019 RS3 and see what you find.

I work for Audi, so I know what the #'s look like. Not sure how that skews how many pre-owned ones are available. 19 cars (or even if it's 50 cars), across 50 states, is not a lot of cars.

Totally agree! And how many of those 19 are "actually" available. "Oh sorry, we just sold that. But let me show you this other model..."

Obviously, I can't speak for others but I am considering selling b/c as good as it is, and the car is really fantastic in every way and checks every box I was looking for, I don't get the sort of thrill I got with my considerably slower manual trans 911. The RS is faster in a straight line, feels more nimble and I drive the same roads comfortably 3-4mph above what I did in the 911 but it just doesn't feel engaging in the way I want. Additionally, I'm looking at some farm land and I don't think the RS3 will fit into the scenario I have envisioned. So I'll get a truck and a used manual sports car of some type.

Thanks moto, that makes sense. I can definitely see how it would not give the same driving thrill as something as a 911. For many it is not always about speed, but for me that is always #1 priority That is why the RS3 is so appealing... dollar for dollar the amount of performance a person can extract out of this thing is nuts.
