S3 for USA? YES! A3 3.2? No more.

S3 for USA? YES! A3 3.2? No more.
Obviously this information is overriding the previous "NO" decision for the S3. The US market (Canada?) will see an S3 in 2007. My source said it will have two turbos but he may be wrong, it may be dual intercoolers. In any event, the engine will have 302hp. YESSS!
Not sure as of when, but probably with appearance of the S3, the A3 3.2 will be discontinued. I'm starting a waitlist for mine now, for when it becomes a rare collectors' item ;-)
These are facts from Audi, not any rumors from any of the magazines or friends of a friend.

Some more details inside
My source is my own GSM who attended an Audi corporate event. This is official stuff, the only way I handle new information.
The engine will be the 2.0T. I was told, with a twin-turbo. We don't know how they will do two turbos on a 4cyl engine. In line? One for two cyl. each? Now, this is guessing, and I leave that up to you guys.
Quattro? I would bet my house that it must be quattro. And yes, it is the current sportback body.
VW's 3.6 VR6 engine will only be in one Audi product at this point, and that is the Q7.
I hope that answers it. Oh, and yes, today is March 31, not April 1, in case you wonder...
PS: the A3 3.2 will stay with us one more year until MY 2008. It will discontinue with availability of the S3. That is their position today. Everything else is speculation.

Could it be a twincharger engine?
You wonder how they'll do twin turbos on a four. Could it be a "twincharger" setup, with supercharger for low end and turbo for high end? VW is definitely doing this with smaller fours.

that would be very tempting. Any guesses to price range from anyone?
i'm thinking if they shoot the 3.2 it might be just under 40k, else the gap between products will be too large.

AoA is seeing the writing on the wall...
I just got my latest issue of C&D. They're previewing the 2007 Dodge Caliber SRT4. It's a 4-door hatchback with a turbocharged 4 cyl making 300Hp & 260lb torq all to the front wheels; 0 - 60 in 5.5s (est.). Estimated base price $22,000. I have noticed a lot of automakers making and enhancing small 4-door wagons lately (i.e. Mazda 3 + MazdaSpeed 3, Nissan, Honda). Competition is making the A3 not so much of a niche car in America (the secret's out).
My point is this: In order to stay competitive in America, it would not be viable to keep producing an A3 3.2 approaching $40,000 (loaded); plus you're getting into Bimmer territory. A base A3 2.0T is just over $25,000.
