Rate my build for 2.0T Quattro; Invoice plus $500
I'm placing an order for an 09 A3 tomorrow and here's what I'm thinking:
A3 2.0T quattro & S Troninc
Ice Silver w/ black int
Convenience (Bi-xenon, Bose, etc)
Premium (paddle shifters, bluetooth, etc)
Cold weather (bun warmers for wife)
Nav (expensive but must have)
I've decided to pass on the open sky because I rarely use the sun roof in my Cayenne. Also, it's heavy, adds to a high CG (good tips from schneideau) and you lose headroom.
I'm also skipping the iPod integration because it's not fully functional on the A3 (ie, no track names). Instead, I'll use the aux input in the center console.
My local dealer has offered to order the car for $500 over invoice. How's that stack up?
Comments appreciated, dave

I would get the magnetic suspension option.
Why get the sky? It gives a full black roof, that gets hot. On a silver car, it looks like a skunk and would you ever use it?
The rest of it looks good, but, not sure about Nav (another toy?)
Have you seen the Monza color, looks nice?

Re: Rate my build for 2.0T Quattro; Invoice plus $500
I'm looking to place an order for 2009 2.0T Quattro with same options as you, minus navigation. I was wondering how much invoice pricing was? The only place I've been able to find invoice is on Edmunds.com, which in my experience tends to be inaccurate.

German cars are taking it in the shorts in America, $500 over sounds good. Silver is trending out
as far a popular color, if that matters. Blue is on the upswing (ironic statement that, no?)
I was in my regional Audi dealership and the entire showroom were silver cars. If that's your color, cool, I have one, but our Orient Blue BMW still does it for me too.
Me, if I were in the market I'd lean towards Avus Blue. Tho one reason I didn't go with blue for our A3 was that we already had a blue car.

My last Miata was a Ground Control lower springs with Konis with 1" front anti-roll bar and roll bar
and Azensis. The car was a road terror. 90 degree turns at speed? Bring it on.
So I was really concerned when I test drove the A3. I was concious of the hatch, the extra length, the higher CG due to the glass roofs, and the inherent understeer from FWD.
I must say, I thrashed the A3 on test drive. I immediately took it off the highway an into secondary roads that bobbed weaved, heaved and twisted like a snake in it's last death coil. Following such a path in the A3 was pure, pure joy. Hilarity, and goofy responses to the "ppHBurp" exhaust. The FWD seemingly holding off any overcenter leverage from the hatch and non-plused by the higher CG from the sunroofs. The road I was test driving is a road I'd taken many time to thrash my Miata, and in some instances I enjoyed the A3 more. It's properly controlled torque coming off of sweeping corners were particularly joytastic.
Certainly the A3 is a larger heavier more powerful car that dosen't equate to direct comparions, but I did it, and I thought the A3 was brilliant.
