R32
-- hey guys -- bit of an intruder here -- but I wanted to know what you guys thought of the R32. I drove a friends yesterday and loved the DSG and the engine. Surprisingly roomy inside and the ride was a nice compromise. My question is -- Does the A3 3.2 drive exactly the same, if anyone has driven both. And is the R32 lower than the A3? it looks very low to the ground.
I'm currently waiting for a B8 A4 to come around in the fall, but the R32 was sweet and I suspect the A3 would be just a little more mature, but still fun... Any thoughts are appreciated. Thx.

The A3 weighs more, but is essentially the same car. 4dr vs 2 dr.......
I like the R32 better, expecially since you can get them new for about 30k since they aren't selling with the market as is.

Made the same decision. Comes down to bling, noise, and availability
Do you want bling or do you want understated style.
Do you want a cabin the rattles like a toolbox after 2000 miles or one thats solid as a rock after 27000 (Don't shoot me down... currently own 27000 mile A3 and 16000 mile GTI, speak from experience)
You might notice I went for a 2.0T A3. That's because in the UK the insurance on the 3.2 is about $500 per year more and the car is $5000 dollars more!!! The half second off 0-60 wasn't worth it!
Interesting to note that UK has dropped the 3.2 A3 in the A3 facelift currently going through. Have you checked that the 3.2 A3 is still available in your region?

So don't get it with Open Sky. I can see the 2.0tq over the 3.2q but...
after having driven an Audi for a couple of years I can't ever see going back to a VW unless I absolutely have to.

well its all personal preference, but I def cant see anyone looking down on an R32....
I cant see anyone owning the entry level A3 looking down on the R32.
The R32 is about 32,300 without NAV. I just built a basic A3 3.2 with heated seats, ipod adapter and xenons for a price of 36,400.
With the R32 you get a better steering wheel, sunroof, and 18" wheels all for 4k less than the A3.
The A3 gives you power seats, memory seats and 4 doors.
I can see the 4 doors being the only reason the options can make you choose a A3 besides the styling.
If you dont need 4 doors, the R32 is a great deal. You can get the R32 with NAV for less than the A3 3.2.
You can see where I am coming from right? The R32 weighs less, is cheaper, looks are subjective and besides power seats and 4 doors, its the same car with more options for less money.

I have owned both
R32 is more aggressive... Better suspension and Exhaust note. Personally I prefer the R32 over the A3... if you can live with two doors that is. The problem with the R32 is that it's too much of a sleeper. Everyone assumes it's a normal rabbit.
