Default Re: Looks very nice, except

horizontal huh? I haven't heard that, you have a source?

I think the mount will let me put it at 45 deg., half way between vertical and horizontal. But i've had no reception problems with it vertical.

It does indeed permit you to rotate the ring and turn the vent on/off. I usually turn it off and increase the air flow thru the other vents.

Default check out the GadgeTT

They also make single vent ones.<ul><li><a href="http://public.fotki.com/ttschwing/gadgetts_and_stuff/the_gadgett/">http://public.fotki.com/ttschwing/gadgetts_and_stuff/the_gadgett/</a</li></ul>

That's very cool? How do you take the vent cover off? I can't figure it out or find any instructions

Just dig your fingernails in and pull it straight out. Nothing special.

Default heat usually welds mount to glass ...

You are the first nuvi owner I've encountered whose suction mount fell off due to heat. Most get stuck so bad that it takes an air chisel to remove them [g].

See gpspassion.com for lots more nuvi info, including some A3 owners' contributions (disclosure: I'm a forum moderator over there).

Default If your signal strength is OK, then

don't worry about the antenna orientation, as the effects won't typically be huge. You could easily check the accuracy for different antenna orientations (when Nuvi is stationary, of course). The accuracy is increased as additional satellites (and signal strength) are "acquired"; the accuracy value is shown on the top of the satellite acquisition page.

Default TJ: are you satisfied with your nuvi? I've been looking around for a portable GPS device

and keep coming back this one.

Default the GadgeTT adapter would be great...

IMHO, except that it seems the space between vents in the A3 is a bit wider than in the TT. Does anyone here know for sure? The wider space makes more room available for mounting a nuvi, etc., but GadgeTT's hardware wouldn't fit. He makes a variation that fits into a single vent, but I suspect it might not be "tight" enough (i.e., to prevent rotating).
