Regarding quattro awd. I live in rural Mt and get lots of snow. With winter tires, the a3 tdi does just fine with the electronci traction control. The only issue is ground clearance and a quattro does not solve that problem. I also have an allroad 4.2 quattro but under most winter conditions don't need all its capabilities.

Thanks. I did not see that aerticle in the WSJ. I have a 2009 Jetta TDI with the dual clutch transmission. My experience differs from that of the WSJ writer. I wonder if perhaps his problem might stem from using "S" instead of "D" for parking lot maneuvers.
I have always been paetial to manual transmissions but this one changed my mind. I think it is the technology of today and beyond. Usage has gone far beyond Porsche and BMW. Even Hyundai just introduced one!
