Default Cracked intake manifold on 2007 3.2

I noticed what looked like a crack in the intake manifold a few weeks ago, but wanted to check with Streetwerke, my local reliable garage, before approaching the dealer. Streetwerke confirmed my concerns today when I took car to them for 5000 mile service.

I've noticed that some pics taken in first days of ownership show the crack too, but it escaped my attention until some dirt highlighted the flaw recently.

Anyone know of anything like this on other 3.2s? Haven't called dealer yet, but will do so this week.

Default Man, that sucks...do you have any engine mods, ie mounts, etc? Do you drive the car hard?

I'll go check my car now and update this...

Well, maybe you could go w/ the HPA manifold now?

Default No engine mods of any kind. Only perf mods are Haldex and Milltek.

Plus, at least I have pics showing that from day one, June 30, that crack is there. I don't drive the car particularly hard either. Mostly a daily driver, but there's the occasional trip on the local mountain roads. Never redlined, though.

I talked about the HPA manifold with Ivan, the mechanic at Streetwerke. I'm not going to get it, in part because even after this manifold gets replaced by Audi, the engine will still be under warrantee. Then there's also the questionable benefit from switching from a VAG to an HPA manifold.

So far, the car runs fine. I just want Audi to fix it, because the flaw could get worse, and if that happens out of warrantee, it would suck.

Default OK, mine is ok, 37500 miles. I don't drive hard either. Think yours might just be a random thing...

I have the dogbone mount, VF pendulum mount, and Milltek as well. I kind of agree with you on replacing w/ the OEM manifold since its still under warranty. It would be nice to have the extra ponies though..but that means $ out of your pocket.

Good luck!

btw, mine is a 2006 if that matters.

Default

Yeah, this is a random thing, a manufacturing defect.

Default I've seen that happen before, but worse than that.

It was on the side of the manifold, and it actually collapsed inwards. Car did not run right of course. Audi warrantied it no problem.

Default Wow interesting, I would have expected the 3.2 to be bullet proof.

I'm sure that warranty should cover it without any problems...

Default I think the engine is generally pretty solid. This defect appears to be a factory defect,

created in manufacturing, and did not come from run-time stress, as far as I can tell. At least, that's my view based on the fact that the defect has been there since I first got the car (I only just now noticed it though, and pictures confirm its early origin).

Wow. Well, good to hear that there was no question about warranty coverage.
