Audi Driving Experience in Fontana
Wife and I went to the Audi Driving Experience event in Fontana on Saturday. Overall, a very nice event. Not really that much car/track time, but fun nonetheless.
For those who haven't had the chance, this is what the event was composed of:
1. 20-30 minute classroom talk about Quattro and things to look for in the driving sessions.
2. Our first session was emergency braking, with A4 sedans.
3. Second session was the high speed lane change with an A6 Avant and A6 4.2 sedans.
4. Third session was a mini Autocross course, with an A8 4.2, Q7 4.2, and A3 3.2.
5. Final session was 1 3/4 laps around the road course in the infield of the track. Choices of ride were S4 or S5 (I think there were also TTs).
The A3 3.2 was definitely the easiest and most fun to take through the Autocross course. The A8 was nice and the Q7 was okay, but no question the A3 shines in that area.
We took the S4 on the track since my wife was worried she'd burn the clutch on an S5. That was fun, even with Tip. And the sound of the V8 in the S4 was great going full throttle through the course. Wish I could have experienced the S5 with its new chassis on the course, though.
Overall, definitely something we would do again if it came back to town.

I take it that this was the free 2 hour session...
The 1/2 day seesion for $599 was awesome... at the end you get to drive both the RS4 and the R8 around the track about 10 times each, and as fast as your group can keep up. My group was slow only 120mph. Some have noted speeds of 147mph since their group followed directions.
