My son took our 2018 Q7 on his vacation and left me with his A3 while he was traveling. While I was driving his car I rolled down the rear window to give the dog some air. The window went down, but not back up and there was a terrible grinding noise. Clearly a failed regulator.

I ordered a Dorman regulator for the rear, and took it apart this afternoon. Not a bad job, and I did find that the regulator was toast. I was very disappointed that the Dorman product would not fit. I called Dorman and they had no such reports. The regulator when installed does not have sufficient slack in the mechanism to allow placement of the window motor mounting assembly in the correct position. If the mounting assembly is fitted first the window frame will not settle into place.

I have now ordered a different product, arriving Monday. Meanwhile the car is in bits in the driveway, tarped for weather and animals. The other option that I will explore tomorrow is to see if the local dealership has one in stock.
