Assuming you don't have an iPhone you could always just get an AMI cable with whatever size USB connector you need to charge your phone. Amazon has all 3 sizes.

You can control the music playback. There are also bluetooth dongles that plug into a 30-pin iPod cable to stream music over BT so you can keep your phone in your pocket and still listen to music or make calls.

The Canadian A3 does not have a USB charging port. You can buy an AMI to USB cable to use in the centre console or the better (and cheaper) option is to buy a cigarette lighter USB charger.

gparhaas what is the trim level of your A3? I know from AudiUSA website configurator the only trim that has MMI Nav Plus as an option without Audi Connect is the base Premium package.

If you have the standard AMI cable with Apple 30 pin connector, you can get the Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter for MMI control and playback of your music files on the iPhone 5s. Assuming the A3 has Bluetooth phone like most current Audis, you can also pair the phone for making/receiving calls with your contacts appearing in the MMI.
