Cabriolet Starter
Replacing the starter. I've searched the forum. Thank you, Mr. Bentley, for not including anything about the starter in the manual. The body side of the motor mount will not come out because a small portion of the subframe is in the way and the threads are too long to let it tilt out of the engine portion. The engine side has three allen bolts and one is pretty much blocked by, you guessed it, the starter. The alternator looks like it might have to come out. I really don't want to drop the subframe. What is the approved solution here? Thanks Grillage for the photos of where the starter bolts are.

OK, got the engine mount out. I had supported the engine from above, similar to the procedure to remove the engine, and my bar had deflected enough to let the engine sag a bit. Jacked the thing up near the transmission and the mount just fell out. Hurt my arm straining to get the top starter bolt out. Ouch. Starter is out, put voltage to it, no action. There are part numbers on starter 1005 821 726, and solenoid 0 331 308 145 645. Surely, nobody just replaces the solenoid? Any comments on who to steer away from for a new starter?
