30.1MPG on my 225,000 90 Quattro 20V!
So on its first big trip, my 20V did a smashing job. I drove it from Idaho to Missoula, MT and back on the same day. It's a mountain trip, crossing the continental divide at least twice. i stayed at the speed limit most of the way. Tangled with a guy in a 1984 Carerra on his way home from winning his division at a Porsche show. I was amazed at the 30.1 consumption as I get 24.5 in typical mixed driving I do.great stuff for a 222,000 heavy German sedan with the powerful engine and all the weight of thr top model...

Those 20v engines are very, very good..amazing reliability and robust. I like the Audi 12v V6 too.
You have a Vanagon 2.1 too? Once correctly built (resealed) those are great engines also.

Interesting. Have you cleaned or replaced your injectors?
I got into the low thirties MPG in my 10v 90q driving from Minnesota to Pennsylvania. I did about the speed limit the whole way. Shortly after this trip I replaced the fuel injectors with Bosch OEM ones which had the effect of lowering my average MPG but increasing the engines performance considerably! So I think the restricted injectors actually saved fuel. I still average far better MPG than the federal estimate suggests. 16 city 22 highway is a downright insult for the 10v 90q. You'd literally have to drive everywhere with your foot to the floor to achieve that! I get maybe 18-19 mpg with a lead foot round town and at least mid 20's on the highway.
