Default i have had excellent results, varying from 4-8 years with zero yellowing, peeling or cracking, ...

not questioning or challenging you or your son's opinion,

but with genuine 3M product, i haven't experienced any of those issues. i live at very high altitude, so lots of UV, and i always pressure wash them agressively with no special regard to the edges.
i'd wager that a lot has to do with whether it's applied to new, clean paint, versus older paint that has been exposed for a while with macro pits and oxidation.
aslo a big difference could be accounted for with proper surface prep, shop cleanliness, and skill in application.
i have also peeled 4 year old stuff, to do adjacent body work, and it has come away clean.

all that said, i also prefer it to having the front surfaces battered and blasted by the kind of debris and contaminants i encounter with all the off pavement driving i do, as well as winter road chemical and sand (which in my neck of the woods is more like gravel than sand).

Default well then you must not be at 6k elevation where the UV concentration is about 15X sea level

but it's ok. I'm not here to talk anyone out of anything. Just voicing my experiences with those kinds of products.

Default welcome to the REAL world and any/every business. You can upsell/downsell...

but business is profit-driven and no one's immune. And it's worse out there now than in the past and gonna get MUCH worse before it gets better. "Ya wanna super-size that?" instead of "ya want the 5,750 calorie gut-buster instead of the 3,550 calorie salt lick?" That is probably the most oft-used up-sell out there and you think anyone at the drive-up window is informing that customer about the known bad thngs he's about to put in his body!?! Its EVERYWHERE!

Besides, most people walk away from the car about the time the product starts to fail. Then people like you & me buy them and ****, moan & groan about the idiot that would do this ;-)

Default mance is right, ... opinion varies, and people should be able to buy what they want, ...

there is nothing unethical about his son selling something that he personally would not install on his own vehicle.

it's not a safety issue. it's cosmetics.

selling brake pads that don't stop, or ski bindings that don't release predictably would be an entirely different thing.
