Default B4q subframe vs B4 fwd subframe questions

good morning everyone, i know some of you guys have played with different subframes for the B4. now its my turn. My original subframe is tweaked on the driver side, so... somehow i ended up with one from a FWD car(its bean sitting in my garage for about 2 years now), the only difference i could notice is that the FWD is reinforced in the area where the CV joints sit, other then that, its identical in all other measurements. So my question, is there a reason why a FWD subframe would not work on a quattro?

The drivers side FWD transmission mount is at a different height than the Q.

Thanks Greg, i did not notice that, do you happen to know by how much, up or down? Also if a FWD trans mount bracket would work on a Quattro?

BTDT, they won't work. I had a hell of a time trying to round up a quattro front sub to replace mine which had a fist sized rust hole through it I was not aware of.

When I did my search on car-parts only a handful showed up across the USA, plenty of FWD ones though.

I was lucky to grab a rust free donor from Oregon and I was lucky when the bolts were broken free they did not break the backer nut which is welded inside the main frame.
If that nut breaks free due to rust you are screwed as the frame would have to be cut open and a back nut welded then the cut welded back or the bolt will just spin.

Luckily Audi hoses the interior frame with wax to keep this from happening but talking to my Audi master mechanic he has seen it happen before.

actually one of the nuts is broken inside the frame, but, PO/shop drilled a hole thru the frame and they just installed a different nut in there, they didn't weld the old one to the frame, so i have some welding to do =)

Same problem. Trans mount in a different location.
