Default Axle bolt torque

Ok before I get scolded for not STFA, I have and have come up with lots and lots of wildly contradicting info. My car is a 1995 90 quattro and I am replacing the wheel bearings 2 years after I previously replaced them. I am thinking that a reason that the failed prematurely is that I torqued the axle bolts to the wrong specifications.

The bolts that I got with my new wheel bearing kits are a 17mm female hex (allen) that is threaded all the way up the w/ a 1/4" shank at the top.

After doing much searching I have come up with the following specifications found on the forums:

90 ft lb
147 ft lb
200 ft lb
200 ft lb + 1/4 turn (hmm.. )
200 ft lb + 1/2 turn (yeah right )
86 ft lb + 1/4 turn
86 ft lb + 1/2 turn

Apparently, someone on the forums claims the Bentley manual says:

86 ft lb + 1/2 turn

And, finally, my copy of ElsaWin says:

81 ft lb + 1/4 turn

So does anyone have a definitive answer? I really want to make sure that I am torquing to the correct value, so hopefully these guys will last longer.

-Thanks

Default

i did my to about 85ft lbs and called it a day, as long as they are torqued evenly, i dont c any problems with it, also, DO NOT reuse those bolts!!!!We are not putting out that much power and torque to snap those bolts
