Still looking for...
a delta radio for my non-Bose '89 200 TQ. With code would of course be preferable so I don't have to pay the dealer $50 to unlock it.
It looks like the one in the link. I don't trust one that's untested. I want to know it works and all LCD segments are intact.
Thanks,

Re: Still looking for...
You can use the Bose versions of either the Delta or Gamma radios in that car. There are connectors on the back for your "standard" speaker connections as well as the line output for the Bose System.
The only difference there would be the "face plate" will say Audi Bose. It will work with the autocheck system
HTH..
I'll be getting my second V8 in a couple of weeks and if the head unit in that car still works, I'll have a spare. Send me a PM with your contact info and I'll keep you in a touch up file, and folow up in case you havn't "found" one by then.

Re: Still looking for...
I don't really wish to threadjack, but I have a related question that may help here. I may be getting my hands on both a running '87 5KCSTQ and a parts '90 200Q. The 5K lacks a head unit, but the 200 has all its Bose stereo equipment intact. If you say the 'Bose' 200 head units will work in a 'non-Bose' 200, will they work in a 5K?

thread jack..interesting term...
Adam..
I don't have specifc knowledge of the 5000's but from a review of the connectors, they look the same. So I'd think that you would not have any issue with using the headunit from the 200 in the 5K.
One thing to think of though is the 200 might have had a diversity antenna system (two radio antennas one in the front window, the other in the rear) and two antenna connections on the headunit. If the 5K only has one, use the "rear" connection (black) on the headunit.

A question...
The non-bose delta radio in my 91 200 TQA is kaput and I'd like to replace with with something Audi made, as I'd hate to lose the OEM look. I'm hoping to find an audi headunit that I could wire an i-pod into, so I'm wondering, does the bose gamma radio have a line-in for a cd-changer that I could use for such a purpose?
I may be barking up the wrong tree, but any advice would be appreciated. All the aftermarket HUs I've looked at, although tricked out with aux ins and ipod adapters, look as though they belong in crappy cars, not an Audi.

Miles.. nothing is "that" easy. You could replace it with the Gamma CC, but even if you did, it's not just a "simple" connect a line in. Because they are changer controllers, the head unit needs to be able to talk to the changer in therein is the problem. You can connect a Line in, but when you select that as the source, you'd get an error.
There is/was a hack out a while ago called a VWPIC, that you can build to get around it, but that's it.
Your best bet.. FM Modulator. assuming you stay with a factory unit.
I replaced mine with a factory Porsche unit (98 996) Porsche unit CR-210, to get some additional functions. I'm still using the factory bose speakers (connected to the CR-210's line out) and everthing's fine. I still use a cassette adapter for XM, but hey I can't have everything either.

The deck ins't pushed back all the way in that photo, cause I was still on the fence about it. I have since decided to keep it.
I wanted to install a concert into it to keep everything Audi, but didn't want to cut into a perfect console to make it fit, (I would have lost the cig. lighter and the ability to go backwards forever)

Thanks for the help Scott...
That's pretty much what I expected to hear, but it's good to know for sure. If there is no better way to connect the ipod than through the radio, is there any Audi or compatible OEM look HU that would let me at least play CDs? I have very little use for a cassette deck, but have tons of CDs.
If not, I'll most likely just purchase a used Delta radio and stick with the FM input.

Re: Thanks for the help Scott...
Myles,
Not directly from Audi they were all changer controller until the Double Din stuff (or if your very lucky you can find a Gamma CD..good luck on that one lol). You can get a Porsche unit similar to mine that is a CD player, and you can also get a VW one.
The Porsche Unit CR-220 or a VW Rhapsody in either case you'll need to "build" a conversion harness if you don't want to cut your old one (very easy) and all the parts are available.
Honestly though for what you'll spend on either of those units you are better off just going aftermarket. An Old Denon, or Nak unit will look OE, but give you the stuff your looking for.
