My opinion on driving a 91 100 auto
Currently driving a 91 100 FWD auto. (loaner while my car is in shop) This is the first time I've driven a non turbo 5cyl. Have to say the car is not that slow like I always hear about. It's no rocket but it's adequate. I was under the impression these things were real pigs to drive but I don't think thats the case. Of course being FWD gives it a bit more torque so maybe that helps. I don't like the way the 4spd automatic feels at all. Rough shift, hunting for a gear on a slight incline sport mode seems to just increase the shift point going into 4th not 2nd or 3rd at least that is how this one behaves. Other than that I miss my turbo 5spd!

I had a 84 5000 CA model with 3 speed auto
And it was slow. You had to manually shift to 2nd and keep the revs up to maintain speed going uphill.
Then I got a 85 turbo and felt it had more than adequate power.

Re: still have my old CD 100, 3 speed auto
It pulled up hill like a train, cruised at 80-90 all over our hilly country and was the reason that I fell in love with these cars.
Power, comfort, economy and safe az.
No where near as quick as the Exclusive, but considering the old girl only cost $300 (abt 160 US) well worth the 3 years driving I got out of her.
And thats why she still sits at top of the drive.

My first Audi was a 1984 5000 fwd autotragic non-turbo...
... and I thought it did pretty well actually. Was it as fast as my 1991 Audi V8 or my Ford Mustang I used to have? Of course not, but I've definitely owned slower cars!

Re: My opinion on driving a 91 100 auto
I have one of those, still kinda heavy for 140hp, but its not slow as many people think.
Might be slower from the start, but on highway it has adequate acceleration. I noticed that transmission only shifts rough because it has error codes in its ECU.
Once I even I did 190km/h with other person and bunch of crap in the trunk.

Ah, your sig brings back memories of my dad's '63 Valiant. Slant 6 and pushbutton auto but the heater didn't work, so he rigged up a JC whitney electric heater on the dash to defrost the windshield.
Finally he had enough of driving in NJ winters without heat, so in '75 he traded it for a Dart. $2666 for a stripper with 3 on the tree from "Dodgeland." Not even a radio. He asked the salesman if it included a heater. I was embarassed and said "you dork, all cars have heaters." I was 12. That car rusted like there was no tomorrow and was basically scrap 6 years later.
Methinks I veered off topic.

Re: ahhhh the AP5 ...
Yeah, my favourite ever car, 1965 Ap5 Valiant Regal, pushbutton auto, slant six 225, bench seat, heater and air, sun shade and blue tint, boot bigger than the Audi !!, so comfortable, esp on the loose old roads we used to have and delight on motorway. Car was the last model, luxury version before the Ap6 (ugh, column shift auto). Bought it in 1976 and it lasted 5 glorious years, many parties( do u know how many crates of beer you get in d boot !!!) and birds with the bench seat, and now you get classic rego costs, arghh ... getting old.
