how to replace a fuel pump
feel like a jackass... sorry if i was unpleasent with anyone yesterday...just frustrated.
Found the problem... my car started chuging again and i noticed a sound like a dying electric motor coming from behind my back seat. my question is:
how do i replace my fuel pump? is it in the tank or outside the tank.

If you do this job yourself...........
I hope that your gas tank is close to empty. Otherwise, you will need to siphon gas back out of the tank. You want the tank as empty as possible.
Disconnect the battery before removing the trap door cover on top of the gas tank. You don't want an electrical spark around gas fumes.
On doing a "Swan dive" inside the trunk, put a pillow or heavy blanket on the lip of the trunk. The padding makes it a lot more comfortable when laying across the lip of the trunk opening.
Take frequent work breaks when doing this job, or you will get higher then a kite from inhaling gas fumes. BTDT.

Re: If you do this job yourself...........
yeah i will be doing it myself... i cant imagine what it would cost to have some one else do it... i replaced a head gasket on a 200 once... this cant be more time consuming than that.
the tank is pretty empty... my gas light is on and my miles to empty says 30... so i'm probably pretty low.

Reminds me of a joke... How do you make a cat go "WOOF"?
Douse it in gasoline and light it with a match!... WOOOOOF!
Conversely... how do you make a dog go "Meow"?
Stick it in the freezer for a week and then run it through a band saw! Meeeeeeeeooooow!
A little twisted perhaps but hey...

Re: how to replace a fuel pump
Couple of points:
1. While removing pump open all doors, wndows and trunk.
2. I found out that if car has a ski bag than you can remove it and remove bottom of rear seat than while sitting inside you can easily access fuel pump thru ski bag opening and you won't need to dive into trunk.
