How to reinstall head and do timing??
#2
The best advice if your attempting to do this is to pick up a Haynes, or Bentley manual...
You'll need it eventually down the road anyways..
The Haynes is definitely not the best resource, but it is cheap and readily available at most auto stores and online..

Re: This will help also
I have the bentley manual. But I was trying to get someones personal feedback. The books can be confusing. Sometimes they don't explain directions. They just say this needs to be done.
Having someone who has done it before and explaining it will help in understanding the Bentley manual.
All tips appreciated!

Re: How to reinstall head and do timing??
Bentley procedure is not bad. Factory recommends new head bolts and be sure to follow the instructions with respect to torque, tightening order, and lubrication. For timing just make sure all 3 timing marks are correct - flywheel, cam pulley, and distributor.

Havnt done an audi yet but.....
Well when I did both heads in my trooper v6 it took me a while since it was my first time (like 2 months), If I had to do it again I would of had my head port and polished for perforamnce. I might of gotten a perfornace cam shaft. I also would of been more carefull about plugging up holes while everything was out. Also If you have a camera you might want to take pictures of your vacuum hoses and wires, they can be really confusing later on when ur putting it all back together. Do you have any specific things that your having a hard time understanding in the manual??
Anyway Hope that helps!

If your uncertain when it's line up when your all done...
Take your spark plugs out and useing your torque wrench (as not to over torque the cam bolt) turn the cam bolt to see if you hit any valves in a complete rotation of the engine. Just make sure you TAKE OUT THE SPARK PLUGS, otherwise you may screw something up overcoming compression. Best thing to just follow the Bently.
Good Luck!
