how to make a V8Q power steering hose
Since the V8 Quattro power steering hose is no longer available I decided to make my own. Here is the parts list:
1)3/8" x 18" 2-Wire Hydraulic Hose Assembly w/Female JIC, $8.74 + 6.95 shipping on ebay
2) An To Metric Adptr Fittings Dash 6 To M16 X 1.5 Blu (A6739-4), $6.98 delivered from highflowfuel.com
3) An To Metric Adptr Fittings Dash 6 To M12 X 1.50 Blu (A6239-4), $6.64 delivered from highflowfuel.com
4) 04-05800 AEROQUIP STEEL ELBOW 2071-6-6S (JIC 6 male to female 90 degree swivel elbow) $4.95 + 1.71 shipping from aircraftspruce.com
Here are the items:
Insert the Dash 6 To M12 into the PS pump (use a copper washer):
Attach the elbow fitting:
Attach the hose to the elbow. The hose kept cross threading so I took out the elbow to start the hose and reattached the elbow.
Attach the other end of the hose to the metal line using the -6 to M16 adapter:
Use some of the sleeve from the original hose to make the clamp fit:
I also used some of the sleeve from the original hose to protect where the hose laid against the frame rail:
It took me about an hour and a half. If I hadn't had trouble threading the hose to the elbow it would have been about half that. The 18 inch hose was a little longer than necessary;maybe 14 would be better. Total cost: $35.97

I'm curious how this has held up on the long-term. I've heard of stock hoses making noise after being rebuilt without the restrictor hose inside. I guess the inner diameters are pretty specific on hydraulic systems because it will change the internal pressure.
So any noise or anything? If not I'll likely be doing this pretty soon as I'm currently using a borrowed hose in my V8.

on my 5k the hose with the restrictor was failing, so i cut it out and silver soldered it into one of the new ends. Seems to work but you can hear pump noise sometime - must have been why they had it in the middle of the line, to damp the noise a bit?

It's holding up so far. One time I found a few drops of fluid on the driveway. I checked all the fittings and they were tight. It never happened again, so I don't know what happened. It does make a little groan when steering at low RPM and speed, like when parking. I can also feel a slight pulsing in the steering wheel when parking.
