Default Haynes Her Way?

OK. I know that the Bentley manual is the complete, total and utterly complete bible of the 1989 Audi 100/200. But just for the CD-ROM fiche it's 100 bucks. I found a Haynes manual for around 40 bucks.

Any recommendations as to which one to buy? Will the Haynes be sufficient?
PS--I've assisted with repairs done by a technician on my 89 Audi 90, but have never done extensive repairs myself.

IMHO Haynes may be sufficent in some areas and lacking in others...

The Bentley usually is more helpful.

As for CD vs paper manuals...give me paper anytime.

Default Great Place For Coffee Cups. Keeps stains off the Bentley.

Haynes don't even cover the '86-88 Quattros, do they?

Default Haynes manual.

Yes. Actually, it states"AUDI 5000 '84 thru '88"
There is a small section/supplemment in the rear of the book that descibes procedures and has figures of differences etc for 86 - 88 Quattro. Not having ever owned a Bentley for a 5000, I couldn't say how complete the supplement is in comparison. It is adequate for me though. I do wish it would go into more detail with some areas.

the haynes is more discrptive for the do it yourselfer with less knolage on how to actually do the repair and the bently has more dionostic there is a alternative to the bently wich is alldata.com the diy section is like 20 bucks but most of it is staight out of the bently

Sure. Ever try to curl up with a good CD? I recently looked at a remote start kit. It included a video tape on installation. Do the rest of you keep a TV and a VCR in your garage? I sure do, right next to the computer with the CD drive.

Default Haynes, $$40.00 ? Is that Canadian?

Most Haynes manuals are about $18.00. My local auto parts joint discounts them to $13.00.

Thanks Tom! I'll check the auto parts store instead of buying online. $20 advice is good advice!

Default Re: Haynes manual. - Had Both, Need'em

Since most Audi problems I had were electricl, heater, A/C, etc, I found the Bentley diagnostics more helpful than the Haynes. For mechanical stuff, the Haynes is sufficient.
