Default cruise control

My cruise has been broke since I got the car over a year ago (took a little fun out if the drive from seattle to alaska). I want it fixed. Here is WHAT it does. I turn it on push the button and the pedal sinks down like its working then car slows down. I hit resume and the pedal sunks down to resume speed but it just releases and the car never speeds up. So every time I hit the switch it tries to engage but the system cant keep the pedal at cruising pressure.

Default diaphram

look on top of engine for rod attached to throttle on one end & approx. 3" round diaphram on other, sounds like a hole in the rubber

look on top of your engine, on my 5K & 100 it is on top right of valve cover in front of distributor, should be similar on V8

common problem.......I have gone through a couple of the rubber diaphrams. It is easy to feel around the rubber for a tear. Be sure to feel the back side of the diaphram. It can tear there, but you can't see it from a front or side angle. It is an easy repair. All VWs and Audis use the same rubber diaphram unit. Maybe still find one in a yard somewhere

The pict is from Ron W, I have highlited the CC diaphram and rod. The pict is engien out of the car, looking from the rear. In the upper left and rights you can see the distributor rotors so you can get oriented.

HTH.
