cold start issue: flooded or ignition?
#11
check the CSV cold start valve, this is the sixth injector at rear of the engine. It only purpose is for cold start and to also give the engine a quick shot under heavy acceleration.

It can't be flooded when cold, that's for sure. I had a similar issue with my old 87. Sometimes it would start, but most of the times it would not. I tried to take out the button on top of the fuel injector, it broke, but it allowed me to stick in there the little starting fluid "straw". After a small dose of starting fluid, car would start and ran ok. I don't recomend this but only as a last resort

Finally "solved" the problem. The full pump died and apparently was dying for the past 8 years... I had wondered about this way back when, but the mechanic tested it and said it was good. The bad fuel pump was also the apparent source of a parasitic draw on the battery and the reason it tended to run hot.
