Default clutch bleeding 86 5000S

clutch pedal goes to the floor, It did this a few times and recovered by itself but this time it is not coming back.

So I looked up what i could on bleeding, conficting info. I tried maintain pressure with a big syringe full of fluid. while my son pumped.

I kept getting bubbles and then it would suck down some fluid and then push out more bubbles. It kept doing that.

So where might the air be coming from? I have replacement for the master and slave but i want to avoid tearing into it without more info.

I would be grateful for some guidance.

Audi recommends pressure bleeding of the hydraulics. There's a bleeder on the slave cylinder. With positive pressure on the reservoir from a bleeder system that replaces fluid as it bleeds out, you get the best results.

from my experience on my 2 Type 44's I would suggest the clutch master cylinder under/behind the clutch pedal has failed, it is recommended to replace both but getting the slave cylinder off can be difficult, I replaced the master on my 100Q & waited to replace the slave until I had the tranny out, when the master went on my 5KQ about a year ago I replaced the master only & have the slave on the shelf in case it fails, so far all is well

THanks. I got it bled and it's working pretty good for now. I have spares for the master and slave when the time comes.

Just a quick BTDT for future reference: "While you're in there" you may also want to replace the pressure hose from the clutch master to the slave cylinder. On my car it was probably a bigger culprit than the clutch master . . . .
