Default CEL 2231 ISV problem

okay so a while ago my idle started going weird and now its not, but my check engine light on my 1990 3.6 v8 quattro comes on when the engine gets warm. i blinked out the code and it kept doing 2231 which is this....

2231 Idle Speed Valve (ISV) Control,
Idle speed adaptation limit exceeded, Sticky ISV, air leak.

the hoses right at the front on the throttle body dont have hose clamps on them but they haven't for a while and there hasn't been any problems and i dont understand why the light doesn't come on till the engine warms up. also where do those two vaccum hoses lead after the back of the engine? maybe its in the back and not the front? i guess first guess would be to put hose clamps around the front? any other ideas?

they are about the same either one or two notches below 1k. i found a hose going from the bottom right of the throttle body into the engine its about half an inch in diameter and about 3-5 inches long with a bend. when i took it to auto zone they said it was a dealer part which means this little 3 inch hose is probably $150+. i ran my finger along this hose and there was a fat hole in it so i bought some heater hose at autozone and its pinched pretty good since its not shaped right. but the idle sounds fine now, (started out above 1k then dropped pretty quick, started it again and it stayed below 1k) but the check engine light still came on after warming up the car. so i pulled the codes again and this time it came back 2232 instead of 2231 which said mass air flow sensor. (not sure where its located) messed around with some wires and the code came back again 2231. im guessing my problem is still this hose any one know where i can get it besides the dealership where itll be a 6 month wait and ungodly ammounts of money? part number is 077103221c

BTW the flapper valve things where air goes into the engine move fine.

can you tell im not machanically inclined? ;P

Default The 2231 code is for ISV & MAF sensor.

So I'm not surprised that the 2232 code came up as well.

What wires did you mess with when the 2231 code came back?

The MAF is ontop of the intake...under the airfilter housing. Yank the MAF & check it to make sure the sensor wires are still there...or that there not junked up. They make MAF cleaner...so check with your local autoparts store.

& I may have the hose...I'll take a look.
& you have the manuals?? Or did you get the code from SJM's web site?

is the MAF the black box on the very top of the engine underneath the engine cover? (maybe a picture would help?) The wires i messed with are two very small wires going to the very front of the engine im guessing they had a connector at some point in the cars life and they are soldiered on now they lead to a round cylinder looking thing on the throttle body. im still pretty sure though its that hose get back with me to my email on a price of that hose ron, (itsav8?) it would be greatly appreciated. i actually haven't priced it at audi....i try not to price anything with them :P

BTW im assuming the throttle body is the whole black box assembly on the front center of the engine held on by like 6 screws.

Yes the Black Box ontop of the motor....under the engine cover...is the MAF.

The wires you messed with are for the ISV....what you'r calling "The round cylinder looking thing on the throttle body".... But you say there is no "connector" persay???? The wires are actually soldered to the thing????

I don't think we need to any farther....I'd HIGHLEY suspect that connection as being your problem.

Here are some pics of the motor. Go through them....in the motorgeek link.

& I do not have that hose. It's on the driver side of the motor under the Intake correct?
Get in touch with Tim Hollister in Michigan...he's parting out 2 V8's. His e-mail addy's grey_wolf_x@yahoo.com. Or

Or Kristian at VMautohaus.com...but here's a direct link to the breather hoses....
