Wow, old post... I am by no means an expert. Like Mike said, an Audi 5000 I5 turbo would be the easiest. By that I mean, the engine mounts will line up and the transmission will line up. You'll still need to address:
Flywheel if the engine is from an auto car
Downpipe + tie-rod clearance
Intercooler + plumbing
Probably no air conditioning unless you are very clever
Wiring - best to grab the harness from the donor car if you are going to keep CIS
