VR6 Swap
#2
Would probably be a lot more work than it's worth.
You'd be fabricating all sorts of mounts, transmission adapters, and pretty much anything that's related to making it fit the engine bay.
Why not swap a turbo I5 - (20V if you lay your hands on it)? It's a well documented reasonably plug-n-play?
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a VR6 swap, but I don't think it's been done due to the complexity of it.

Very easy
Probably the easiest swap in terms of going from NA to turbo. Of course you RR the motor, but the wiring is cake. There are some considerations you will have to address (downpipe, keeping CIS or going EFI, etc), but its really easy. If I can do it anybody can
Motor bolts in to the factory CGT mounts too!
Be prepared to buy alot of new parts though, swaps take $$ to fund.

Not as straightforward swap as an I5 turbo but can be done...
034Motorsports has some of the adapter parts you'd need.

http://www.034motorsport.com/product_info.php?products_id=665</a

If you turbo'd it, definitely worth it!...
It's been done, but not nearly as much as an inline 5 turbo swap. Even a V8 swap into a GT is more common. I say that having seen only one VR6 into a type 85, but that was an 85' 4kq. I'll see if i can find the link.
My brother and I have been entertaining the idea of putting a VR6 into an MK I jetta GLi..

Just need to fab an engine cradle... shouldnt be too hard actually...
You can see on there B5 cradle where it mounts to the motor, doesnt seem like it'd be too hard for the B2 chassis....

I have a 1987 Audi coupe gt and am in process of wanting to do a swap. What engine is the easiest in your opinion? and which one will provide the best power increases for the smallest amount of work?
