Default tranny on 83 CGT and the reverse

When I try to go into reverse sometimes it doesn't make it all the way and when i let the clutch out it grinds
One solution i found is shifting 1st to 2nd then reverse is that a problem with anyone else

on a side note does anyone know if a cold air intake will work on my car and were i can get one

May be time for some shift linkage bushings. I'd try that first.

No such thing as a cold air intake for CIS. Won't do anything anyway, the current setup pulls cool air in from behind the right headlamp.

Default My 83's got about 180k now and has no tranny problems (yet).

BTW, many in here swiss cheese their air intake boxes. I'm afraid of pulling hot air in tho.

Default Air Intake

I just removed the stove box and thermostat that blocks the intake. I then added a heat shield. I dont think there is much more to be gained in the practical sense by swiss cheesing it.

Default Me too..

My '87.0 does the same thing. I just go into first, and then into reverse. I can usually tell if it's not all the way in gear just by feel. Maybe I should change my bushings, they have 385,000 miles on them! I'd bet that would solve the problem:-)

Default Not exactly correct, cold air intake for CIS was available...

For VWs at least (and 4 banger Audis). This is on Ebay right now as a matter of fact, and while it's for a MK1 VW I'd have to think it could be modded to work for an I5.

Default That will make absolutely zero difference.

Unless you run some plumbing for a filter inside the fender, it will just suck hot engine bay air.

I never said it would make a difference, just that it exists. :- )

Default I move it a bit.

My 87 GT does the exact same thing, I just let my car roll backwards a bit or go into first. Sometimes I actually shake around to get my car to roll a little haha.
