Default springs/strut mount?

Hello all,

I have an 84 CGT 2wd non turbo. I have replaced most of the front suspension parts on my car, and am left with the struts and springs now. I have replaced the upper strut mounts and noticed that they keep compressing what seems to me to be a lot. I can see a large gap form on the top side of fender, which tells me it's compressing and allowing lots of extra bounce...I don't like this at all. Is this because my springs are no good anymore? I assume they are no longer supporting the weight of the car and this is the reason for the gap and ruined upper strut mounts. I also measured from the ground to the top of the wheel well on both sides and they, of course, are not the same. The right side measures about 25 inches and the left side measures about 25 and 5/8 inches. I have replaced all at this point except the springs....which are expensive, and that's the main reason I have not replaced them. Are there any other models I can take springs from that may have better springs that what I have got? This would be from a junkyard for now. Any compatible models that came with better springs from the factory? I fully realize they may not be in any better condition, but I am happy to look around and see. I just don't have 300 bucks for springs right now. More like 10 or 20....hence the junkyard. Hey-I could get lucky! Thanks for any help,

Josh

Default Springs for 1984 gt

Good morning Josh,

I have a set of 1986 4000 coupe GT springs out of a car with 130,000 miles. They are in perfect shape except for miles.

Will sell for $100.00 and you pay freight.

Regards, granpa

Replacement Springs..

Pretty well any 4k (or 4kq) front springs will work in the coupe.

Even Audi 90 springs will fit, but may be a bit stiffer.

Maybe post on some of the other Audi forums, and good chance you could get some inexpensivly..

Default springs...

I did happen to find a pair of springs from an Audi 90, which are indeed stiffer. I now have a new question...nothing I can find tells me what the proper ride height should be...no reference point for the front or the rear, or overall height for that matter. Does anyone know, or have, or know where I can get this info? Thanks, Josh

Having the same problem on the back end. The cars like a pogo stick going over speed bumps. New/er upper mounts and struts will fix the problem, have ever that may leave a hole in your wallet in return.
