Default FOR SALE: 1985 Audi Coupe GT

Posting this for a close family member that is looking to sell.

FOR SALE: 1985 Audi Coup GT
A title - being sold by original & continuous owners of the vehicle

A little History:
This car was purchased thru Sewickley Porsche-Audi, Sewickley, Pa. in the spring of 1985. It was purchased to be raced in SCCA racing. It was immediately outfitted with a custom roll cage, special suspension and a few other goodies to compete in the SCCA Playboy/Escort Endurance Cup series. (This car was actually a replacement for our 1982 Audi Coupe which was the first road course racing Audi in the USA, and actually won the 24 hour of Nelson race in 1984).

The Playboy/Escort Endurance Cup Series was a nationwide professional road racing series for late model, basically stock, street automobiles. It was heavily supported by Dodge, Nisson, VW, Chevrolet, Honda and other manufacturers. The services was an acknowledgement of the “win on Sunday -- Sell on Monday” marketing strategy that had prevailed for a number of years in the American automobile industry.

In 1985 this Pro Series was sponsored by Playboy Magazine and later Escort detection systems was added. Races were scheduled about every 4 to 6 weeks and were 6, 12 or 24 hours in length. The races were held at: Riverside, Calif, Sears Point, Calif, Road Atlanta, Ga, St. Louis, Mo, Lime Rock, Ct and Mid-Ohio in Lexington, Ohio.

(This Audi coupe also competed in the 24 hours of Nelson race held in Warren, Ohio that year. This was the original 24 hour endurance race that was the premise for starting the Endurance Cup series).

Over 120 teams competed in 4 classes during the series. The Audi Coupe was in class SSB, and competed against cars such as the VW Golf GTI and the Triumph TR-7, Saab, Dodge Colt, and others.

Monetary Prizes were awarded for each class, as well as overall series winners.

This Audi Coupe was one of only 3 Audis that every competed in racing in the US until recently. Our race team did enjoy some limited local support from Sewickley Porsche Audi, and Audi USA. However, this was mostly a privately funded effort.

Our Audi (#65) first raced at Sears Point, Calif. 7 days after we took delivery of the car. Right out of the box, with no time to test or tweek, we finished 3 in class, and 4th overall in manufacturer’s points.

We went on the race in all the other Endurance Cup races in 1985, finishing 3rd overall in SSB class. All of this with a very limited budget and private financing from the drivers and owners.

Similar results were posted in 1986 and 1987. After 1987, the car was retired from racing, and put back on the street as a Drive-It-To-Work everyday vehicle.

This vehicle is now 27 years old, and needs a new home. It was completely taken off the road in 2010, and is in need of restoration work. This car is being sold AS IS - WHERE IS. It comes complete with all the extra wheels, suspension and other parts that we have available. This is being sold as a unit - parts and car -- and will not be separated or pieced out.

Parts include: Struts, inner 7 outer CV joints, Sway Bar, 5/3/1 exhaust, 4 Ronal Wheels & bolts, 4 OEM wheels and bolts, A/C parts, oil cooler & adaptor, 2 ft wheel bearings, fuel accumulator, fuel filter, 3 sets of plugs, 1 set of fuel injectors, 1 side mirror, small parts index & books.

The car is located in Western Pennsylvania.
