i have done over 100. probably another 150 motorcycles. i started as soon as i could drive..
i buy them whereever and whenever i find one. i have never lost money doing it (knocking on wood). i used to do so many, i was supposed to get a dealers liscense, so i found a way around that. i used to carry a large wad of cash just incase i spotted something while driving around.
alot of them were cheap cars that i could by for $1k or less. i'd clean them up really nice and resell them for a good profit. i'd even buy from the salvage pools and fix them and resell them for a profit. auctions are a good place to get them as well. ive even bought some on ebay and resold them.
i love making money off of cars and motorcycles. : )

You'd be challenged to flip them.. :-)
The only way you could flip them by the time they go to the wrecker, is to flip them on their roof!
Tell me how you could flip any of these..
-A 85 Renault 5 (5 door!) with a broken timing chain
-A 85 Renault 5, the that jack went up through the frame, and needed a new windshield.
-A Renault 12 that had 'lightweight' rocker panels (Drove a bulldozer over that one, to crush it flat. That was fun...)
-A Dacia, that had something that 'skipped' in the gearbox, and wouldn't move under power
-a '70 Toyota Celica (with over 200,000 miles) that had a paint roller paint job, and 'back axle steering' because some of the axle links had rotten body end mountings
You get an idea as to why I never sold any of them...? :-)

Not to re-sell for a profit, but...
My history is I try (and usually succeed) to break even on any of the "special" cars I have sold (meaning non-daily drivers that I kept for years).
I figure that if I can sell a car for what I have into it (not counting my time), and have had the use of it for years, I am doing well. Unfortunately VAG products are not like MOPAR or other AMERICAN classics that APPRECIATE in value.
Newer daily drivers: there's no hope. I keep them a long time to amortize the cost, but it adds up over the years.
