Default looking for rear window 4000 quattro (1986)

I'm looking for a rear window for a 1986 Audi 4000 quattro.
Which means
- with "quattro" heating wire
- braking light included
- green coloured glass
- original part no.: 853845501A

Does anyone have this to sell?

The p/n you listed is for 85 or late 85's with vin up to 85-F-220000. If you have vin number 85-G-000001 for 86 year car you'd want rear glass pn 853845501C. Both are discontinued from Audi as you probably already know.

Yes, I know that Audi doesn't produce them any more...

But what is the difference between "A" and "C" / what's the difference between the windows? If the "newer" one would fit, I would look for that... Perhaps the older one doesn't habe the preparation for the braking light?

Sorry for these questions, but here in Germany, no one knows anything about these windows with the braking lights. So I didn't hear about the number 853845501C before.

Those A and C part numbers were for our US 4000 quattro cars. And with even the rear gasket discontinued I can't tell if that was any different but I think there were two different gasket part numbers. It could be that one gasket had provisions to run a defroster wire inside the gasket to the glass, the other didn't?

I had trouble looking for the 4Kq in non US films until I realized it was called the 80. So looking it up that way I found the rear glass to be either 811-845-501-H or 811-845-501-K green tint. So when I checked what vehicles use that glass I found our US Audi 4000's non q's use that same part number. Again, I don't know what the differences are between any of the glass part numbers. But this widens your search for a used glass. But I'd measure it out to make sure that it's the same dimensions even though it's hard to believe the q and non q would use a different glass.

In my US film it did tell me both the 501H and 501K were heated so you could be right about the 3rd brake light being the difference.

I probably just complicated things with the addition of 2 other part numbers, my hope is if things measure out right, you can find one from a non quattro with or without the third brake light to match what you need for your car.

Hi Jeff,

many thanks for the explanation. But as it is the 3rd braking light what makes it interesting, it's the only window what I'm looking for ;-)

My car is a quattro and has the green tinted rear window with the "quattro" heating wire. But I do really like the 3rd light because it's absolutely rare in Germany (and is has to be the original one). So it is not that urgent (because my window is not broken), but has to be THAT window. I think the 3rd braking light doesn't fit to the "normal" glass because the black frame around the light is inside the glass, isn't it?

What's different about the window pertaining to the brake light? Got a pic? My '85 has a third brake light but the window has the same part number as the one on my '84 and doesn't look any different, so no help there.

Now I'm curious...

I mean the black frame around the lamp (see pic). My glass dealer said, it is part of the glass an in case of my 1997 Audi C4, it was definitely part of the glass.

All my coworkers and I can figure is on the 2 choices for US one is clear glass and the other green tint. Most glass is always green tint, like the front. About the only way you notice is to put a white sheet of paper on the outside and look from the inside out and it's then that you notice the degree of green factored into the glass.

We aren't sure about the 3rd brake light, from what our listing shows it appears all the US 4kq had that. Not sure if the base is built into the glass or not.
