Looking for an air filter cold air intake hose for my 87 4kq
#13
Plenty of people go with out I'd assume...
I never saw an increase in performance, except maybe when I turned the hose forward to provide a semi ram air effect. As I recall many people make swiss cheese out of the bottom half of the air box to squeeze a bit more power and throttle response out of the JT.

Lots go with out I'd assume...! Intake noise?
I'm thinking that you could go without that hose. You may get a small amount of warm air in, but probably not enough to matter.
Looking at the thick and heavy bit of hose, I'm thinkng the long intake setup is to get rid of intake noise. Remember, when 4kq\s were new, the were sort of 'civilized luxury cars'.
(Not the hooligan rides that they now have turned into! :-)

Had holes in the bottom of mine that sucked water from a deep puddle into the intake...
You would be better off removing it than driving around with a shredded or holey one.

would it be a bad idea to make a custom cold air intake out of flexible rubber hose rather then PVC?
