Looking for advice for restoring wheels - powdercoat vs. base/clearcoat?
I've got a set of 15" Ronal R8s for my 4kq that need some straightening, lathing (one might need a little weld) and refinishing.
I'd like to match facory finish (Zermatt paint with clearcoat) but like the idea of powdercoat durability. Anyone know if they can powdercoat to match the factory fininsh? I was under the impression that there is a limited selection of colors for powdercoatings?
Wondering if it's possible to powdercoat primer, paint Zermatt base (to match original color) and powdercoat a clearcoat finish that matches the gloss of a true clearcoat?
Finally any recommendations for wheel repair in the Seattle/Tacoma area (or mailorder elsewhere)?
Anyone have experience with Cascade Wheel (Lynnwood), Dependable Wheel Repair (Renton), Alloy Wheel Repair Co. (City? 253 prefix in phone book) or Wheel Wizard (used to be near Auburn, but I can't find a number. Anyone know if they still exist?)
These are pretty rare wheels, so I want to have them done right, but at a decent price too.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Im going through the exact same dilemma
I posted a few weeks back about my stock Alpine White Ronals. I am on the fence about powdercoating, mainly because I want a perfect paint match. I think paint will be just fine, but powdercoat seems to be cheaper (at least from what others tell me).

Recently used Dependable in Renton........................
Went through Tim (owner) and he did a nice job. Had mine powder coated at CT Specialties in Tumwater. Wheel repair was $85 per or $300 for 4. Powder coating with blasting ran me $140. Not a direct match for the Zermatt but it passes. See sig

My'86 has spent it's whole life in Seattle/Tacoma.
I picked it up from the original owner after I wrecked my '84. I've brought it to Burien a couple of times, maybe where you saw it? It's got the 14x6 original wheels on it in my picture poster. Yours look like they might be 15X7?
Mine will have a very similar label to yours when I'm "done" with it. "Puget Sound Native - All stock except the E-Codes, dealer-option fog-lights and 15-inch Ronals"
E-Code headlights and fog lights are still in the gargage awaiting harness & install. I do sometimes ponder the thought of adding a "16 valve" Fuba antena for the roof, euro plate for the front and e-code tail lights (with rear fog)... we'll see.

Talked to Mike at Cascade Wheel in Lynnwod and got a few answers to my previous questions...
Yes, they are somewhat limited to the colors they can use. Probably not an issue for your white ones Mike. He said they could blend their silver powder to try and match Zermatt better, but it would not make a perfect match.
Apparently the paint and powdercoat "flop" differently... meaning one is brighter from straight-on and the other is brighter from an angle... but I forget which is which.
And No, they cannot powder coat a clearcoat over Zermatt paint.
Said he'd need to look at them for a firm estimate, but it would probably be about $125 a piece to repair and powder coat (prime, base, clearcoat) the set. More if I wanted it painted.

I did mine myself, mostly. Had them painted at a shop. Total outlay was 300 or so
but, I think they're beautiful. Factory color, with clearcoat.
