Its the little things...
Ive been on my own all month while my parents were in Cali. They get home tonight so I had to go gas up each of their cars (95 Sebring and 97 Malibu).
Now I had driven the Sebring throughout high school, theres some sentimental value there. But man, some things really bug me about american cars.
First off, in the Malibu every single damn time I get in there and pull the seatbelt it gets all wapperjawed and tangled and I have to reach over and untangle it. Its like the slot is too big and the belt gets wedged in there at odd angles. Stupid, but frustrating. Also, the brakes on that damn thing are touchy as all get out. I rest a toe on there and the car flies to a stop! I realize every car is different, and thank god for that, I just hate the touchy brakes.
Its amazing I enjoy driving much older cars as opposed to those two newer ameritrash vehicles. We keep em well maintained but still they have wear items that havnt even begun to show on the 4ktq. The steering wheel in the Malibu pretty much disintegrates in my hand whenever I grab it, ugh.
Just a small rant to say how I love these cars and despise driving anything american. Sorry if there are any american car lovers, its just my opinion.

Right there with ya........
Being a "professional auto tech" I see many many need I say many....... more american cars than forign, especially European cars in for work. It's not always major repairs either, it's little nitt-pick stuff like ratteling trim, squeaking bits, etc... thats gets people. It's the engineers not looking at what works well in all types of cars, and LEARNING FROM THEIR MISTAKES.
100% with ya.....

100% agreed!...
I have this argument weekly with some of my coworkers. I work in a car audio installation bay and daily we deal with your typical cavalier, escort, focus, malibu etc. Honda's are most of our business which I have no problem with but occasionally we get to work on a european. I regularly experience how cheap domestic cars are new and old. Poor design, interior as well as exterior, cheap product in general from dashes to trims to mechanical. I had an 02 Grand Prix in the shop a couple weeks ago and when I rolled down the window pulling it in(standard procedure) the window track broke and the glass went crashing down into the door. When was the last time an A4 or some other Audi or BMW lost all of its value and fell apart at the age of 3? Needless to say I've converted about 4 out of 7 guys in the shop to convert to euro cars or at least a Honda/Toyota. Nothing compares to the German engineering though.

Yep
When you work with cars on a daily basis like I do, you really get to see how average wear and tear adds up on them. American cars are junk. There's no reason for an '06 Escalade to have the entire power window switch panel popped out and hanging by its wires from the door. Or, for the power seat panel on a Corvette seat to pop off and hang by its wires when you sit in the seat. The interiors are cheap and poorly designed, and the exteriors are shod in crappy paint. I love seeing all the clearcoat gone on a car made after the year 2000. American cars suck, they're made to be disposable versus last for a long time. Your average American only hangs on to a car for a few years anyway, so I guess they don't see the need to build them any better. At least the parts are relatively cheap.

i agree...
But our cars arent trouble-free niether. However, i used to drive a 96 mustang gt 4.6l and though it was somewhat fast, the whole ride feel and the plastic interior was so crappy. The car handled like **** too with its live rear solid axle. American car companies when they make a fast car all they care about is making it fast and they dont make a complete all-around car. Our 4000's may not be the fastest but they give you a good feeling when driving them.
Europeans just really love their cars and it shows when they make one.

Yup, I work on NA cars once and a while, TOTAL CRAP.
But I'm surprised with Toyota, amazing craftsmanship with their vehicles. Very well built... ALMOST as good as VAG.
I've never owned a Toyota before, no wonder they are doing so well. Nice cars to work on.

Got Home From europe last summer into a BLAZING hot and humid VA summer, the cab i got into was a brand new Chevy Taho, Tawho, something or another, anyway, it had less than 200 miles on and, the airconditioning was broken. Junck from the factory floor is my thinking, although american companies can make some mean diesel engines.
