Default insane conversion idea

man i hope this won't be just be wishful thinking, but i want to do an insane project. I wanna turn my CGT into a hybrid, by installing an electric engine and battery back in the trunk and rigging it into the transmission. I was looking online on how the Honda Insight works, and I think i'd want to be like that.
The electric engine would only help with the accelerations and the shut off when on the highway where the gas engine would kick in. Whenever you use your brakes and decelerate in gear this charges the batteries and gives power back to the electric motor. Anyone ever thought of this or do you think this is a ridiculous idea. I just can't stand the gas prices, but I don't want one of those stupid hybrids they have on market.

Default Sounds like a boatload of work

Not saying it cant be done though. What kind of engine management would you use?
Try buying premium without a job and paying for college, its fun .
If I had a ton of cash I still wouldnt buy a super fuel efficient car. I do have a thing for the new Civic's though...

Default More like the an Oil tanker worth of work.

Do a diesel conversion. 5 cylinder turbo diesel engines are cheap.

Then if you happen to work out the hybrid bit, you'll have a diesel hybrid. But diesel is a good place to start.

Default Where do you find 5-cyl TDI engines in the US?

And what's cheap?

You'd have more money into it than a new hybrid! :O

Not TDI, but 5 cyl diesels are fairly common in junkyards.
