it looks like an order to autohaus is required. I think I should replace the window guides and slot seal while I'm at it but I'm not sure how the plastic clips and the outer window trim work. Thought I'd ask for any BTDTs before I break something.

NLA parts warning....
The clips that hold the bottom window seal are NLA and break VERY easily. I don't think the felt liner is available anymore either. The best thing to try is apply silicone grease to all the felt track. That should reduce/eliminate the friction and binding that kills the regulators. Greasing up the regulator cable and track help a lot too.

The clips were available through the dealer last time I needed some. Granted they had to ship from Germany and took a few days, but they had them at the time.

Ditto. I picked up a few extras the last time I bought some, but...
I've gone through most of them. Seems like each time I take off the trim, I break about half of them. They do get very brittle.
I think the way they are supposed to come out is that you pry up the bottom edge of the trim a bit and sneak a small flat-head screwdriver in the slot of it...roatate each clip 90deg starting at one end and working your way along. Bentley shows rotating clockwise on a passenger door. Might be the reverse on drivers side, or even the passenger side if someone put them in backwards. The end that trim clips onto should go up as you turn.

Thanks! There's hope! Impex has the slot seal but
are out of the clips right now but looks like there are other sources.
The 90 deg turn of the clip makes sense but I still can't quite figure how to disengage the aluminum trim without bending it or breaking the clip. If I can find replacements it won't matter. :-)
The clips for the door seal were easy. They have the push pin that releases the clip when you poke it out with a punch or such tool.
