90° worked great for me although annoying since you can't walk away or let go. Someone had posted on here quite a while back about a fix for this issue. There was some kind of inline check valve in the trunk behind the liner that causes this problem when it goes bad. Try searching the archives.

My cars do this from time to time also, I have not looked into replacing the valve yet. I have found that keeping the rubber sleeve that's around the gas pump nozzle from complete contacting my gas tanks filler neck (and thereby creating a seal of sorts) seems to keep the pump from "shutting off".
I know it's there to keep gas fumes in, but leaving it askew so it can "breathe" seems to work everytime I fill up. Try it out.
