Default Did they come this nice from the factory? Before and after shots, motor.

Before:

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/87300/2.3_ng_dirty.jpg">

After:

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/87300/assembled2.jpg">

There is one new metal bit on the motor - the waterpump. The rest is recycled.

Total time: ~150 hours
Total cost: ~800$ including all parts

Default ITB car. However, the black car is also getting a new motor as we type.

More coming on that later.

Default Looks beautiful! I wonder how the raised VW/Audi symbols and the lines would look polished...

...leaving the rest of the cover black...

Sorry for being a 4k n00b, but what engine code is that? Any way to tell by a quick visual glance?

Default polished audi logo on valve cover...

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/90734/dscf0165.1.jpg">
(it's not very clear in any of the pics I have, apologies)
However, I think it looks pretty good...I'd really like to find a valve cover that has only the audi rings on it and do the same thing, maybe with some of that krinkle black paint, and sand down the audi symbol a little more.

Default Very nice, but one question

How did you clean the bolts without removing any sort of rust protection they might've had. When I did my motor I made the mistake of using a wire wheel on them and, despite spraying them with some waxy protectant, I noticed surface rust rather quickly.

My job was about $1200 which included new pistons, boring, etc, etc. Here's my before:

and after
