they'll last longer than you think with a torn boot but..
by the time you hear bad clicking it's probably too late.. if you catch it early, it can be saved.. when you do the boot, REALLY clean the bearings, the cage, and the cub so you get all the debris and old grease out. check your other boot, if it looks old, dried up and starting to crack.. do both sides and you can swap the left joint over to the right and vice versa so wear the opposite side of the joints.
I have never done this, but have heard it works.. and it makes sense to me and can't do any harm.
