Fuel Pump Replacement

Fuel Pump Replacement
Hi guys,
I was wondering if any of you has a DIY procedure for replacing the fuel pump.
I could not find any in the FAQ page.
Would the procedure from the UrS4/S6 work?
My engine has been randomly shutting down on the highway (6 times this week end).
It suddenly shuts down and all dashboard ligths are blinkings. I also hear a repetitive click under the dash board.
I read all the threads I could find on the subject without a real solution.
I will also try to replace the fuel pump relay.
Thank you

I'd sure want to figure out what the problem is before throwing parts at it.
sounds like it could be classic ignition switch failure or a loose connection at the fuse box.
What year is your 100?
Is the climate control acting funky at all? How about the door locks?
Here's a link to another thread about some clicking and electrical problems:

https://forums.audiworld.com/a6100/msgs/88482.phtml</a

Audi 100S 1993 with 148,000 miles...
Thank you for your help Dave but I experience none of the troubles from the thread you linked.
From what I have read the clicking sound it the fuel pump relay.
This is why I am going toward replacing it together with the fuel pump.
I believe the fuel pump is original.

Screwy dash lights and other electrical gremlins usually point to a faulty
ignition switch. If your flashing lights are more than what one would normally expect to see when a car runs out of gas (fuel pressure) then I'd start there. It's a $38 part that's known to go bad.
If it were me, I'd get out my VWTOOL or VAGCOM and run thru the output tests in the ECM section. That protocol will test the fuel pump for you, along with a number of other things.
If it continues to be a problem then I'd probably swap out the fuel pump relay, just to be safe. That should be less expensive and easier than replacing the fuel pump.
Have you checked for stored fault codes?
