Default A6 Radio Auto shut off & safe mode - not the same reset issue

So ... my radio is in safe mode and is locked because I entered the wrong code twice. I have the correct code now and desparately want to enter it.

There's an issue with my radio that I can't seem to get around. I know that I should be able to wait an hour with the radio on and it should reset itself. However, my radio has always automatically shut off after an hour, so I can't seem to keep it on long enough for it to reset.

Any ideas out there?

Default even with the ignition on? delta radio right?

if so one of the positive wires maybe loose or a fuse has blown..
does the radio turn on and off with the ignition?

yes, delta radio

the radio has always shut off after an hour - exactly an hour. i always thought it was a safety feature so that the radio wouldn't drain the battery.

no- the radio doesn't turn off with the ignition. it stays on as you turn over the engine.

thoughts?

Default Ignition switch

could be one of these..
1. either the switch is damaged.
2. the signal wire from the switch is broken.
3. or the plunger that controls this function is missing..

you would have other problem if the ignition switch was faulty, so I would say its two or three..

turn off the car and remove the key, turn the radio on and then push in and release the center off the ignition where the key would go with your finger.

the radio should turn off.. If it does not then the plunger is missing..

Default Re: Ignition switch

i agree that i don't think it's the ignition, so i tried the other ...

with the car off and the key out, i turned the radio on. i depressed the center of the ignition and it went in, but nothing happened. so, it did go in, but maybe there's something disconnected/gone bad??

what do you think? this may be the issue and it would save me from having to get and install a new radio.

Default Well you may have to live with it.. the problem is

the last time the switch was replace or even before that, the small metal plunger that handles this function fell out of place..
I don't think the dealer sells it but I'll check ETKA and see..
Its so small most don't even notice it, I stumbled upon it after I changed my switch and had the same problem with the radio.

not sure i can live without a radio.

i suppose if i had another audi laying around, i could keep the radio on long enough to reset itself. not sure where i will ge another audi a6 on the cheap though.

thanks for the help. i'll check with my mechanic to see if he thinks he can fix the small metal plunger issue.

any chance it's still in there, just not engaged properly? or do you think it's a goner?

Default Its most likely not there...

if it was out of position but still in place the center of the ignition would not push in.

try this to get the radio working..
find a switched 12v source in the fuse panel and connect it to the ignition terminal on the radio..

so when the ignition is turned on the switch 12v will turn the radio on..( most older cars)
that will also help with your code problem

i'll try this once the radio removal tools come the mail and see if it works. i was thinking the same thing, to try to get it to conntect somehow to the ignition and battery.

i'll let you know how it goes. after this, i may resort to just getting a used radio and be sure i put the code in correct the first time!

thanks again for your help.
