Default Roof mounted antenna question

The antenna on the Avant was cracked around the rubber base of the arial so I unscrewed it, and ordered a new one from the local German parts place. The new one arrived, but has a 5mm stud instead of the 6mm stud that mine has. Also, mine is stamped up on the end that it's for 800 some mhz, so it's rated for cell phone?

Do I have an original antenna, or has some one replaced the base and the arial?

GPR has a complete amplified Hirschman for $57, so I can install that base and whip, and hopefully it will mate up to the car's coax and amplifier.

Default I bought an aluminum nub on eBay from Germany for 12$ shipped...

It doesn't work well, but I've never used the radio function of my car, or in my house. That said, I think it looks really nice, and it was cheap.

Good luck,
-Jeff

Default VB, what's the scoop on your antennas?

I believe it was you that sent me one about a year ago for a Jetta project....it was a really nice fit.

Did you pick up a case of them somewhere?

Default ^Update...what a pain in the butt

Couldn't find an aerial with a 6mm stud to match my base. Took down my rear interior light to discover it's not a powered antenna. All there is going to the base is a 6" long coax pigtail. The other end of the pigtail goes into some sort of coax splitter box in the roof near the base.

The Dealer was no help. ETKA doesn't show photos or list the right antenna.

We finally looked up the base for a same year Passat Wagon and I bought that for $40. Then I bought a replacement aerial from GPR for $16.

Good grief!

Default not powered

some old VW's had power going to the antenna from the center wire on the antenna cable, while others had a seperate power wire...
I read this on fuba's website many years back when I was searching for replacements
