My new C4
Hello All
I had recently bought my first 93 100. I always liked the C4 style, but unfortunately I couldn't afford an S4. Love this one though.
I am an Audi fan and I had a 4000 and a 5000 turbo before. Both 86s.
Here is the first question however.
When I start the ignition, there is a 2 second beep. No warning lights on the dash though. Anybody has any idea what that is?
Thanks

The car has an 'auto check" feature that runs through
a number of sytems at every start. Common problems are:
brake pad wear indicator circuit
low windshield washer fluid
low brake fluid
burnt out tail/brake light
low coolant level
and more.
there should be a LCD display in the center of your instrument cluster to show you what the fault is. the beep occurs when one of the systems is faulty. sounds like your display may be inoperative.
Do you have an owners manual?

Re: The car has an 'auto check" feature that runs through
Thanks for the suggestions
I will check the liquids and see if that helps.
If it doesent, I will crack open the manual.
Thanks

Re: Run yourself into the gas tank reserve,
As it turns out the Self-Chek "window" or the larger window right below it that should be showing my "fuel to go", "Km to go" does not display anything. Not even OK. Both windows are blank
I tried to push the little **** to cycle through the symbols, but no sign of life.
By the way, I checked all my fluids and nothing was low, but it still beeps when I start the car

Re: Run yourself into the gas tank reserve,
Further to my incoherent post above. Those windows apparently have names. Trip Computer Window and Autocheck Window. Well those two things show nothing.
I vaguely remember seeing the "OK" when I picked the car up for the first time and thinking to myself "that is pretty", but since then I had pushed a lot of buttons and turned a lot of *****. I do remember a beep at one time while I was driving and fiddling around with things I can push.
How can I make the pretty symbols come back in both windows?
I hope this post is clearer.

Look in the FAQ for the instrument cluster lamp replacement procedure...
Never mind. Here's the link: Instrument lamp replacement.
The Autocheck needs 2 lamps. One is colored red. The other is colored yellow. The trip computer needs one regular white lamp. While you're in there, replace the rest of the lamps. They're all white.

Re: Look in the FAQ for the instrument cluster lamp replacement procedure...
Thanks for the link. I will do it over the weekend. The left most light, above the temp gauge is out anyway. So if for nothing else, I'll at least replace that.
Is it normal for those bulbs to go at the same time?
Can there be any other reason why those two display screens are blank?
