Is it me or do others have this happen.

I remember reading this tech-article about heatsoak in the MAF and the benefits of insulation
I've never done it, however, the guy seems to claim it does wonders.
Hope this might help!

Nope. It's a new facia for the rear passenger cig. lighter at the back of the console...
I didn't like the plain black plastic so I felt the need to improve things. Took some 1/16" stiff plexi, bonded my leftover veneer and went to work shaping it to fit. The hole was very tough to drill in terms of getting it in the right spot, a drill press and proper hole bit did the trick w/o tearing up the veneer.
I'll post a pic installed in the car, need to do a bit more finishing work still.

After searching the archives, this linked post makes the most sense to me:
See the link below.
IMHO, insulation on the MAF could be quite counterproductive in the long run. I'd probably be more inclined to make a heat shield to help protect it from radient heat from the engine. Directing large volumes of ambient air acoss the outside of the MAF would help in some cases, though not in stop&go city traffic when the problem is the worst and when you miss the instant power the most.

https://forums.audiworld.com/12v/msgs/6716.phtml</a
