Default Man oh man, gas mileage is all about how you drive...

So I always keep track of my mileage. I have averaged between 18 and 21 MPG the entire time I've owned my car. I considered this ok, and never thought much of it.

This summer, I have a wicked commute for my job - about 500 miles a week. So I decided to try to do everything I could to get better mileage. Less environmental toll, money saved, etc.

I time red lights, I brake seldomly, and probably most importantly, I've started going 55 on the highway.

I just got my best tank ever this morning. Including a terrible bout of city driving and a horrid traffic jam - 27.7 MPG! In my avant!

I can't believe it!

Default Yeah, if you take it easy you can get some good mileage...

I have a manual...I can get upwards of 34mpg on the highway if I shift to neutral and just coast down inclined spots, only giving power when necessary.

Default However, driving around like a gas-miser for too long seems to hypnotize..

my car into a sleepy responseless state nearly impossible to wake it from when I really need the after burners.

I spent most of yesterday romping on the thing to give the computer some re-education.

I'll bet Doug doesn't have that problem, esp with his new MAF and throttle body just begging him to have fun with them.

Default Yeah...a modded 12v is pretty fun to drive! Esp. w/ 5-speed...

But lately i've been trying to take it easy b/c of the ridiculous gas prices...

Default My mileage seems good, we'll see but so far I'm happy with the RS3. What I...

love is the throttle response and how I don't have to get on the gas as much to get decent performance now. These two mods have really transformed my car and as long as my gas mileage stays put or improves I'm a happy guy.
55 mph is thrifty but you're almost a danger in a lot of situations 'cuz people are constantly driving up your *** and around you trying to pass.
