I am SO SO SO SO SO SO SO PISSED. Strut mount FAIL x 2 in ONE WEEK. WTF!
So, I got a new hood and paid 230 to get one in good shape with matching color of my car.
This was tuesday.
Friday, I am coming home and I park my car, and WHAT DO I SEE? AN EFFING DIMPLE on the hood.
I had just paid 270 dollars for a new OEM audi strutmount ($115) and 1.5 hours of labor to fix the broken strutmount that had popped through and ruined my hood last week.
Well, it did it again. I made it home from where I was, driving 20mph the whole way. Insurance company is towing her back to the mechanic.
I am so furious. Why would this fail again? Especially on a brand new part?

my money is on *this* being the root cause somehow...
"So, 6 days ago I had my car lowered. I had a local indy shop install camber plates and new springs."
Something in that mix may be over-stressing the mount. Either that or the shop might be somehow installing the mounts upside down, backwards, or otherwise wrong.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a6100/msgs/92684.phtml</a

I have to agree with Dave. If you've lowered the car you're probably over-stressing....
the mounts. I had a brand new Meyle mount go in 6 mos. on an unlowered A6. I'd suggest going back to the old suspension or at a minimum buying dealer-issue mounts. Sorry about the hood, a bummer.

It's weird, because only the right mount failed, both times, and, it was an OEM Audi mount at $115
I realize the lowered suspension would put increased stress on everything, but the drivers side holds up fine through bumps and ruts in the road. If the left had failed, I would switch back immediately, but I think there is something going on with the right side of the suspension.

did you check for the big cupped washers, like we all suggested last time you posted?
my S6 is lowered and sees track time. my $17 autohausAZ mounts still lasted almost 2yrs. something is missing on your car.

the other thing to look into is what shock/insert was paired with your new springs
I don't know a whole lot about modified suspensions, but I can picture an insert that's too long long for shorter springs possibly causing this problem.

There is NO WAY this could happen if you have the lower cup installed on the strut
The lower cup is larger in diameter than the bushing, and therefore will not push through the mount. Almost as important is the upper washer on the top of the mount that goes on just before you tighten down the strut bolt. Basically, check to make sure that the rubber mount is sandwiched between 2 metal parts (lower cup and upper washer). If they are in place the strut cannot push through the rubber mount.
