help! 95 a6 tranny!
i recently picked up a 1995 Audi A6 that is in great cond! i had to replace a cam sesor in order to get it going. but now that i got it going the tranny shifts really hard going into third gear and slips going into over drive. the car will then go into limp mode. if i manually pull the gear shifter down and shift it the car shifts with no problem and doesnt go into limp mode.... i check tranny fluid level and it is fine. it is and A6 quattro. i just need some help in the right direction on where to look? anyone?

You need to scan the transmission control module (TCM) to check for codes. To scan, you'll need VAG-COM or the factory scan tool for an ODB-I vehicle (pre–1996). The multiswitch may be bad, or the ATF and filter may need to be replaced.

Is this a four speed automatic? I had same problem. Could shift up through gears to 3rd and drive that way all day. Put it in drive and once the tranny got to fourth, Nobody home. then car would go into limp mode. Had to turn car off then manually shift up through to third and drive that way.
IF this is your case try the servo piston assembly. There are two metal washers on this piston that crack and will not let enough pressure build to activate the piston which in turn is fourth gear. I paid around $50 dollars for the parts and a weekend of my life under the car. Not to mention numerous donations to swear jar.
