Holy cow what an impossible item to remove. Took me a while to find it with the diagram in hand, and after fighting to get my hand down there and only getting the rubber boot loose, I gave up. I'm going to leave it for now, and since my battery test that was suggested I run turned out OK at 12.53 V with the car off, I'll just let it be for now till it get's worse.
